“Every artist was first an amateur”

I absolutely love watercolour, it is one of the most fun mediums to work with. My watercolour kit consists of Schmincke watercolour paint pans, mostly Taklon brushes of all shapes and sizes. I use two brands of 100% cotton papers, my first and most used watercolour paper is Arches but I am also a fan of the Fabriano artistico watercolour paper.

I have been using Coloured pencils for as long as I could hold one and I guess I never put mine down. Today I use two types of beautiful coloured pencils – Caran d’Ache Luminance and Faber Castell Polychromos. I have a variety of paper types but I always choose 100% cotton papers. When drawing in coloured pencil I like to achieve the most lifelike and detailed drawings I can.

Pastel is fun! I use pastels a lot quicker than coloured pencils I find it gives a lovely free, relaxed and arty feeling to my work. I can get a very soft smooth look in background with my Pan Pastels and lovely highlights on top of darks with pastel pencils. I use Rambrandt soft pastels, Caran D’ache pastel pencils, Faber-Castell Pitt artists pastel pencils, Stabilo – CarbOthello chalk pastel pencils and the awesome Pan Pastels. I also have a variety of pastel papers but Pastel Mat is my preferred pastel paper.

My photography has grown along side my art and is what I am most know for on my Facebook page, ArlieV Photography & Art with over 16,000 followers. Photography is a great form of art on its own for me and also being able to take quality reference photos for my more detailed works of art is an advantage.
